Assistant Planner

Experience:  Entry

Office Location:  Fresno, California or Visalia, California

 

The Assistant Planner researches and collects data from a variety of sources, assists in preparation of documents and staff reports, coordinates public noticing and document distribution, and performs technical analyses at the direction of supervisory-level planning staff.

 

Duties:

  • Research and/or organization of information and data to assist in the preparation of a variety of planning documents (e.g. environmental documents, portions of general plans, specific plans, and development codes);
  • Research related to the development of plans through analysis of data and identification of goals for the community or the project;
  • May assist in the preparation and/or editing of the above documents;
  • Coordination of public noticing, outreach, and similar tasks.

 

Requirements:

  • Good writing skills with attention to detail;
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook (Microsoft Suite) programs;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Proven organizational skills;
  • Basic working knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, other state and federal environmental laws and regulations, California Planning and Zoning Law, and related statutes is desirable;
  • Basic knowledge related to site design, planning principles, and/or agency procedure is desirable.

Education and/or Experience:

All degrees must be received from accredited colleges or universities

Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field.  May be substituted by two-year degree plus four (4) years relevant experience (related fields: Geography, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture).
